Possible Osprey – Madam Brett Park, Beacon 12/20 @ 1pm
12/21/13 UPDATE: – per Aimee they did not have success this morning re-locating the bird; all that was left on ice were the remnants of a carcass and some Crows. She did share some pictures of Immature Bald Eagles with her friend and based on the facial markings and body and chest mottling, he now believe what he saw was a 3rd year Bald Eagle.
Aimee LaBarr reports that a friend saw an Osprey at 1 pm today (12/20/13) at Madame Brett Park. It was pretty far out in the marsh eating something on the ice. He couldn’t see it with binocs; he had a scope and clearly saw the black eye stripe. Aimee will be meeting her friend there Saturday morning (weather permitting) and will give an update.
According to The Birds of Dutchess County (DeOrsey and Butler): “It is very unusual to see one in winter anywhere in the north, as their usual wintering area is the Caribbean to South America.
