– Comments: “Wood Stork (Mycteria americana)  Accidental Vagrant
One on March 24, 2026 on the Hudson near the Mills Mansion in
Staatsburg, found and photographed by Eric Gross. Apparently the first
March record in the Northeast. The first record of a Wood Stork for
Dutchess County. Normally found from the Southeast US through South
America, they have recently expanded to nest in North Carolina. They are
known to wander, sometimes great distances, especially after breeding.”

A Wood stork is classified as a large wading bird in the family Ciconiidae

It is considered a “true stork” and is the only stork species that regularly breeds in North America
