Cattle Egret – 04.17.22
Date: 4.17.22Contributor(s): Carena Pooth
Location: Amenia NY (North East)
I first found this bird on 4/17, when it was at this same location in a farm field vernal pool. That day it flew away and was not seen again until I found it at the spot again on 4/22. A small, white egret with pale apricot-orange crown and crest, also a pale apricot-orange patch blending into white on the back and a smaller patch on the breast. Legs were short and greenish yellow, feet blackish. Bill was orange-yellow. Lores were dull greenish yellow and eyes were dull yellow. The bird’s neck was short, more like a Night-Heron’s than a Snowy or Great Egret’s.
