Black Scoters – Mashomack Preserve, Pine Plains 5/16/14

John Askildsen found 4 male/4 female Black Scoters on 5-16-14 on a pond in the private hunting preserve, Mashomack, (Pine Plains, NY).  They were seen and photographed by several Waterman Club members and were gone the next day.  Black  Scoters are a coastal duck that breeds in the subarctic and are described as Fall transients for Dutchess County.  There are few Spring reports.
