Field trips are held most Wednesdays and some weekends. Dress for the weather and bring lunch and beverage. All walks are open to the public free of charge. Inclement weather cancels walk. See for last-minute changes.

Field Trip starting times change throughout the year. In general, 8:30am for the month of April, 8:00am for May, 7:30am for June, July and August, 8:00am for September, 8:30am for October, and 9:00am for November through March. Also check this website or the newsletter for occasional changes.

Wednesday, July 19, Cary Institute  This is the first in a series of three Bird and Tree ID walks.  In addition to birding, Mike Fargione (Cary Institute) and Julie Hart (Dutchess Land Conservancy) will be co-leading the walks at Cary to help teach/reinforce tree identification. Meet at the Gifford House parking lot (Rt.44, Millbrook) at 7:30am.

Wednesday, July 26, Nuclear Lake  Intersection of Rt. 55 and Old Rt. 55 in Poughquag. Meet there at 7:30am.

August 2017

Wednesday, August 2, Turkey Hollow/Tamarack Preserve Meet at club house parking lot on Turkey Hollow Rd. Turn off Rt. 44 (#4754 Rt.44), Millbrook, before Amenia at 7:30am. Plan to carry lunch.

Wednesday, August 9, Vanderbilt Mansion  Meet at the visitor parking lot (Rt.9, Hyde Park) at 7:30am.

Wednesday, August 16, Dutchess Rail Trail  Meet at the parking lot on Van Wyck Lane, Fishkill Plains (for Lake Walton Rd.) at 7:30am.

Saturday and Sunday, August 19-20, Guided Bird Walks by RTWBC at Winnikee Nature Preserve, 8:00 – 10:00am both days. These two walks are part of the Winnikee Land Trust Invasive Species BioBlitz. This two-day, all day, event will include the location and identification of invasive plant species, guided hikes, training from ecological experts from across our region, learning how to use the iNaturalist app, live animal demonstrations, and presentations of winged (raptors), rooted, slithering, web-footed, and hard-shelled friends! Meet at the tent in the parking lot off Route 9 adjacent to the former Pete’s Famous Diner and behind the Hyde Park Florist (4204 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park).
