In Memory of Don Schoudel
June 9, 1929 - May 23, 2005

by Lynn Jordan

Don Schoudel, my dear friend of over 30 years, passed away in May.  When he was a few years younger, he was an avid hiker in the Catskill Mountains.  Don climbed all the mountains over 3500 feet in elevation making him eligible for membership in the 3500 Club.  When a hiker finished climbing the last required 3500' peak, there was a congratulatory toast of wine. Don always carried a wine glass so he could drink in style.  During the years of hiking mountains in my attempt to qualify for the 3500 Club, Don was usually there encouraging me all the way to the top.

He was also a member of ADK, Sierra Club and our bird club.

Throughout his life he loved drawing and photography and produced many fine pictures.  Some of us can remember seeing him sketch while the rest of us were eating or resting during a hike.

Don will also be remembered for his sense of humor and his polite manners.  Goodbye to a good friend.
