| Total Species: |
70 species compared to 79 last year, but
consistent with the average over the last 10 years. Poor
poison ivy and cedar fruit along with very few acorns
have an impact. The total number of birds was
the highest since 1996 with 17,811 birds. For

| Highlights: |
All time highs were recorded for Yellow-bellied Sapsucker,
Pileated Woodpecker, and Northern Cardinal. A new species,
the Long-eared Owl, was spotted at Vassar Campus. Cedar
Waxwings were few this year and missing were Bald Eagles,
Northern Pintail, Grebes, Kestrel, Eastern Screech Owl,
Grey Catbird, and Yellow-rumped Warbler to name some. |
Thanks to all who so diligently participated as groups and feeder
watchers on a very cold day. There was a heavy morning frost but
no snow on the ground. The ponds were, for the most part, completely
frozen with a few exceptions.
We finished all this with a delicious covered dish dinner at Elaine
Andersen's house. GIVE A BIG THANKS TO ELAINE and anyone
that helped.
