79. The lowest since 1997.
Last year 65 species. This year we had 16,142 birds compared
to 17,448 in 2002. For a detailed species report, see

7 Groups including 39 Field Observers. 14 Feeder
Watchers |
| Highlights: |
Record high counts were made for Downy and Red-bellied
Woodpeckers. Low counts for American Black Ducks. Both
vultures were also at new record highs. Wild Turkeys
are at the lowest since 1993. Missing were Northern
Shrike, Common Raven, and Winter Wren, which we have
had in recent years but missed this year along with some
sparrows. The weather was more than acceptable
with the temperatures ranging 17 to 42 degrees F. Ponds
mostly frozen but some open areas on a few ponds. The
day was sunny to cloudy with little wind. This
has been a record breaking wet year. Both vultures
were found this year as well as a White-fronted Goose
and a Swainson's Thrush. |
We finished all this with a delicious covered dish dinner at Elaine
Andersen's house. GIVE A BIG THANKS TO ELAINE and anyone
that helped.
